What are Some Good Apps That Teach European Spanish?

Question: I want to learn European Spanish. Is there any app that could teach me European Spanish but not the regular Spanish?

Answer:

I guess what constitutes “regular Spanish” depends on where you live. For most Europeans “regular Spanish” would mean European (Iberian) Spanish. But if you’re American I guess you mean Latin American Spanish.

A lot of apps tend to focus on Latin American Spanish because the vast majority of Spanish speakers are Latin American—and many people who want to learn Spanish are Americans and it would often make more sense to learn a variety of the languages that is likely to be spoken by Spanish-speakers in America.

In reality though, if you speak Latin American Spanish you would easily be able to communicate with Spaniards and vice versa. The differences are minor and compareable to the difference between American and British English.

I’ve used a lot of different apps for learning Spanish (I’m still only intermediate) and most of them are focusing on Latin American Spanish (I use Rocket Spanish as my main course) but some of the apps that do offer European Spanish are:

Note: Babbel and Busuu offer allround courses (including grammar). Memrise is a modern approach to flash cards (spaced repition). I wouldn’t use Memrise as my only app for learning Spanish, but I do think it’s a good add-on to a the other apps.

Hope this helps!
